Ms. Barbara Conolly, JP, MP
Shadow Minister for Education and Social Development
Ms. Conolly has worked in the financial services industry for over 30 years in the areas of corporate and fiduciary services and held the position of Manager of Fiduciary Services prior to her political career.
Ms. Conolly’s political experience goes back to 2002 when she became a member of the People’s Progressive Movement (now known as The Progressives). She has played a significant role in the development of the party over the past two decades. She is a former General Secretary and has served on the Party’s Executive for many years.
In 2005, Ms. Conolly left the private sector to work with the Hon. D. Kurt Tibbetts, former Leader of Government Business (now Premier) as his political analyst, a role that involved constituency work on behalf of Mr. Tibbetts. She returned to the private sector in 2009. Ms. Conolly was first elected in 2017. She served as a Councilor (now Parliamentary Secretary) for Education and Youth and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. During this term she served on several House Standing Committees, including the Public Accounts Committee, the Standing Select Committee to Oversee the Offices of the Ombudsman and the Standards in Public Life. She also served as the Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of Youth Parliament. She assumed the role of Deputy Speaker in 2020 and acted as Speaker periodically.
Ms. Conolly was re-elected in 2021 and currently serves in the Opposition and is the Shadow Minister for Education and Social Development. She is also a member of the Public Accounts Committee and a member of the Organizing Committee of the Youth Parliament.
Ms. Conolly enjoys walking for exercise and has walked in her constituency of George Town South for many years. She has two children and two grandchildren.
